WebGIS Services

Web-based Geographic Information Systems (webGIS) is a hybrid of GIS and Internet technologies, which allows for the collection and storage of heterogeneous datasets – indexed by location – and makes them widely available in a visual, dynamic, and interactive format using any web browser. As a result, webGIS has the potential to increase public knowledge and participation in environmental management. Similarly, sites can be password-protected to allow research teams to share geospatial and tabular datasets via a webGIS interface.

The GIIF offers development, maintenance, and support for webGIS sites for your project. We offer three levels of service, designed to target your desired level of detail and customization:

Simple, D.I.Y.
Simple, by GIIF Feature-rich, custom

Simple, Do-It-Yourself (D.I.Y.)
Examples

At this level, clients take the "Intro to WebGIS" workshop, then set-up and maintain their own webGIS site that resides on the GIIF servers. The GIIF only gives them access and keeps the software and security updated. The client(s) are responsible for keeping code, data, and website up-to-date.

Features:
• Data displayed: points only
• Base map: Google Maps
• Navigation: zooming, panning
• Developed, managed, and maintained by you.
• We keep software up-to-date and data and website backed-up.
• You will take a Google Maps or other webGIS workshop to increase your DIY webGIS skills!

Prices: $100-150 *

Includes:
• Workshop admission to "Intro to WebGIS"
• Setup of user account and directory on server
• Maintenance of software updates, security updates

Simple, Made to Order by GIIF
Examples

At this level, the GIIF sets-up and maintains the webGIS site, but the site is a simple site, with minimal custom tools or design, and GIS-ready data that requires little preparatory work.

Features:
• Data diplayed: points, lines, polygons, imagery, imagery
• Symbology: Made to order
• Navigation: zooming, panning
• Tools: Turn layers on/ off, identify, link to photos

Prices: $1,500-2,000 *

Includes:
• Setup of generic webGIS site, using template
• One-hour meeting every 2 months
• Addition/revision to site/data 1 hour per month
• Maintenance of software updates, security updates

Feature-rich, highly customizable
Examples

At this level, the GIIF sets-up and maintains the webGIS site, which is customized to the client's needs. Custom tools and web design, as well as heavy GIS data manipulation and website design fall under this level.

Features:
• Data displayed: points, lines, polygons, imagery, databases.
• Symbology: Made to order
• Navigation: zooming, panning
• Tools: Turn layers on/off, find address, link to photos

Prices: $5,000-7,500 *

Includes:
• Setup of customized webGIS site, for client's needs
• One-hour meeting per month
• Addition/revision to site/data 4 hours per month
• Maintenance of software updates, security updates

Annual maintenance = $100 Annual maintenance = $600 (with no further development/customizations). Any further development/customizations will be considered additional consulting.
